Come join us in our new Native Bushfood Garden at House of Hope and learn about growing your own bushfoods local to Sunshine Coast and the role of food and time in nature for mental health.

Workshop Overview

Join Veronica from Witjuti Grub Bushfood Nursery and discover the diverse selection of bushfoods you can grow here on the Sunshine Coast (Gubbi Gubbi / Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Country) and hear about the recent research on the role of food and time in nature for our mental health and wellbeing  from local Psychologist and Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner Kristy Howard (In My Mother’s Kitchen).
Bushfood plants not only supply tasty, nutritional produce. They are stunning trees, shrubs, ground covers and vines that will turn your garden into a unique and beautiful sanctuary. 
Veronica will share her love of growing native edibles and pass on planting, pruning, fertilising and general care tips to ensure your food forest rewards you with abundant produce. Kristy will discuss the recent research on the role of food in our mental health and how growing your own food can nurture your wellbeing.  
Explore our beautiful Native Bushfood Garden at House of Hope and sample fresh seasonal produce that will get your tastebuds tingling.

Where:

House of Hope, 10 Redmonds Rd, West Woombye QLD.  This event will be hosted outside in our gardens.  Please dress appropriately to the weather.

About our hosts:

Veronica has been a Sunshine Coast based bushfood specialist for many years growing, propagating and selecting quality species to supply a wide range of native food plants to the home gardener, commercial grower, botanical gardens, schools, universities and community gardens.  She holds demonstrations, talks and workshops from both her property at the Witjuti Grub Bushfood Nursery in the Obi Obi Valley to a wide variety of venues and gardens throughout S.E. Qld. Her journey has been fuelled by a passion for Australian native plants and by her delight at seeing bushfoods growing in backyards and public spaces for everyone to share and also be delighted by.
Kristy is the founder of In My Mother’s Kitchen, Psychologist and qualified Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner with a passion for rewilding our health and healthcare (bringing in the wild things).  Kristy has a deep interest for how food, nutrition, lifestyle and nature can support our wellbeing and, in addition to her psychology and horticulture studies, has completed post graduate training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine.  In My Mother's Kitchen is a health and wellbeing service for women who nurture and struggle with stress, burnout and overwhelm and offers individual therapy, therapeutic gardening programs, mindful eating and nutritional psychology education. We are passionate about providing opportunities for women to slow down and connect with themselves, each other and the environment in ways that nurture their wellbeing.

This workshop is open to the community.  Unfortunately, infants and children are unable to attend. Bookings are essential.
